Bewitching the Mad Men

For those enamoured with Mad Men, check out the early seasons of Bewitched. The first season, in 1964, introduces Madison Avenue ad-man Darrin Stephens and lovely suburban housewife Samantha. He works in NYC and commutes to and from their Westpor, Connecticut home.

If you dig the early-to-mid 60s clothes and furniture of Mad Men, take a trip down memory-lane with Bewitched.

My favorite show as a kid after Get Smart. (re-runs, fyi)
Dick York was way better than the other guy.

The first seasons of Bewitched were in B&W, as I recall.

If you guys want to see pure early '60s style, there is no better show than Twilight Zone.

Yeah, the Bewitched episodes on Crackle.com are the colorized ones, which kinda sucks in some regards.

Don't forget Larry Tate: sort of a comedic combo of Sterling and Cooper.
I like the light gray and olive tie. What's up with the dark pocket squares? I thought everyone stuck with the white t.v. fold back then.

Some more interesting caps of the wardobe department's efforts:

In the first few episodes, I don't think I saw a single TV-fold white pocketsquare. Other than that, Darrin's suit here could be right out of Mad Men

Or how about this tonal striped grey suit on one of Darrin's clients. Note the one-button jacket, with two-button cuffs and jetted pockets.

Lastly, Mr. Stephens knows how to dress when meeting his mother-in-law for the first time, his wife having invited her for dinner.

...and revealing some of the details at the end of the episode.

Two, actually.

A great show, although even as a child, I paid a lot more attention to Elizabeth Montgomery than to the men's clothing.

I remember Don Hollister in "That Girl" wearing colored squares in the later '60s. Since those shows were right out of the time period, I guess I would trust their interpretation more than "Mad Men."
