First Day with New LG enV Touch phone...

Just out in the past week from my local Verizon store. Some thoughts on this phone in case you wonder how good it is.

The Good
1. Nice design and somewhat stylish.
2. Good ergonomics and easy to hold.
3. Simply amazing screen quality. Very fine gradations like a modern laptop screen.
4. Superb contact management. I was worried about this coming from a Blackberry but no problem.
5. Excellent keyboard.
6. Touchpad is actually easy to type on. I've had no trouble adjusting from my keypad only phone.
7. Seems to have good battery life, although it's a bit early to draw a conclusion.
8. Great voice quality on both ends.
9. Superb pics for a camera phone. 3.2 mp and Schneider Kreuznach lens.
10. Good speaker phone.

The Bad
1. Still not quite as sexy as the gorgeous iPhone.
2. A bit derivative (in a good way) of the iPhone.

Overall a superb phone so far. I'm excited about having a new toy which was free with my Verizon 2 year agreement.

I figure it is free in the sense I have to have cell service so I would spend that $80 a month anyway. Also, my employer has been picking up the monthly charges.

Nothing like sucking on the employer's teat! Best kind of teat, IMO.

Girlfriend and I were both thinking about getting one of these. I didn't realize it was free with the upgrade, I figured I'd have to shell out $80 or so.

Fran, please keep me updated on what you think. I have had the original enV for about 2 1/2 years and have been really happy with it. It's just old and some of the keys are starting to stick, it's shutting off at random times, etc. I'd be more than happy to stay with an enV phone if the new one is good quality.

Still enjoying it. A really well done phone. I find VZW phones to be fairly reliable and good if a bit less sexy than the iPhone. I like the quality of the screen and keyboard especially. Sending a text message is a breeze. Thank goodness I have permanently left "predictive typing" (which is neither) behind.

I get $100 towards a new phone too, and I can't decide what to get

Touch keypad on the front works surprisingly well. I have also discovered I can view .xls sheets with the document viewer and a MicroSD card.

I got the touch over the weekend. How'd you get it free Fran? Is it a business account or something? Mine was $245, with a $70 rebate. Still, I wanted it badly enough that I ponied up and paid for it. I'm really happy with it so far.

VZW wanted me to re-up for two years and they put me in some preferred customer club which got me a $100 sales credit, enough to cover the phone with a two year extension.

I really like the phone a week or so in.

Still liking the enV Touch AF?

I just got mine Sunday, pretty nice. But...the fact that I can't sort my contacts by last name like I could with the Blackberry is very frustrating.

Have you started hacking it with Bit Pim yet?

edit: BTW, got myself and the gf one with a 2 year Verizon contract. Both phones cost us $99.99 total.

Yes with one minor exception...typing on the touch pad can take time. Touchscreens are fashionable more than functional in my early experience. Maybe if I did more web surfing I would feel different.

I am not aware of Bit Pim but I am getting a Blackberry soon so I probably won't bother.

Was going to opt for the Droid Eris, also two for 100, but I couldn't justify paying an additional 44.95 per month per phone for the data plan.

Other than the major design flaw of having the unlock button on the side of the phone though, I think the enV is pretty good.

Why is it a design flaw to have it on the side? The way I hold my phone, my thumb is always right there. Plus you can just slide the touch screen to unlock it also.

Anyway, I've had mine for several months now, and am still happy with it. My battery/charger has had some issues, but I'm very happy with the phone.
