They haven't played the original arrangement of "Reelin'" for many, many years. But at the Hammersmith Apollo they brought Elliot Randall out (original session guitarist who did "Reelin'") and cranked out a killer rendition. Epic! You post like 713 million links a day; how come you screw up the only one I want to click on?

Reelin' in the Years is easily their worst and most overplayed song. I'm never surprised when people have an aversion to Steely Dan after hearing it on oldies stations on the radio. There's a good guitar riff hidden under terrible vocals and not much else.

It is one of my least favorite Dan songs but it was interesting to see the original arrangement played. They're doing a new arrangement on this tour, a totally funked-out version. It is actually quite good.

Fagen had the rep of being overly meticulous which made it such a pain at the recoding studio. Reelin', along. with __ Do it Again, My Old School, Bodhizattva (Live! in Santa Monica, CA version)__ were their early 70's stuff when they were just getting started. hence, not as clean and well engineered as the later stuff. i, particularly, like [those] for that reason__ more loose & free wheeling, and less technically encumbered__ the feel sorta takes me back to the bygone days when they were just playing to be heard.

edit:
other SD faves, imo:
Dr. Wu
Aja
Peg
The Fez
Time Out of Mind
Babylon Sisters
Hey 19
Kid Charlemange
Rikki Don't Lose that #
Pretzel Logic

Fagen:
I.G.Y.
The Goodye Look
New Frontier
Florida Room
Teahouse on the Track

RitY is a great song, but this video sounds awful. Wtf is he doing with the vocals during the verses?
