Clothes Question

Been lurking for some time now, finally had a question that I haven't been able to resolve on my own, so I made an account.

This one's a two-parter.

First, I was inspired by some of the clothes worn by the PowerHaus Jewelry models, and I was wondering if anyone knew a place to grab something fairly similiar to the grey jacket, and the vest in the second, preferably in black.

Just wanting to try something new, and not experienced in buying these sort of things. Only other forum I read / use was SuperFuture, and that seemed like the wrong place to go.

Anyway, thanks for that part.

Secondly, for the vest (since I can't really go walking around with just a vest on), what do you think would look good under it? I'm trying to keep with the minimalist/casual look, so no suits or dress shirts here. Maybe a sleeveless white shirt? V-Neck?

Your thoughts appreciated!

Thrift store? Those librarian sweaters always seem to be available there, and there are plenty of odd vests as well, or the occasional 3-piece you could rob one from. If you mean brands, I have no idea.

Under the vest, without a dress shirt, the only thing I can imagine looking okay would be maybe a slim fitting henley shirt.

Cool, that's what I figured, but I thought I'd see if maybe someone knew of a brand they liked for either.

I'm sure someone will - I'm just not much of a brand expert.

Not sure about the vest, but for a henley, American Apparel should be a good way to go. If you want to spend a substantial amount more money, Nice Collective makes nice henleys.

I recommend Adam + Eve henley shirts. Pima cotton, super soft, competitive price and worth every penny.

I think a well-fitting plain white tshirt (I guess vneck is preferable) would be good. Don't go for Hanes/normal underwear brands, though, the necks don't fit the way you're looking for. Am Apparel will have nice onces for cheap. Some of the rogues gallery vnecks w/prints might work too, though that may be a little busy.

Both venture a little bit into Ducky/Bueller territory.

RE. the cardigan. Cloak, Les Hommes, and Prada have all made pieces like this is recent collections, just off the top of my head. The old man cardigan is the look de jour in hipster and fashionista circles, so there is no dearth of high priced versions that have that silhouette. Just go to firstview.com, and look at recent menswear F/W collections, and I'm sure you'll see what I mean. Ralph Lauren Purple label pieces are often also available at sgnificant discounts at outlets like Loehmanns.

And while I think that vests look like ass unless as part of a three piece suit, or unless you are one of Cyndi Lauper or Boy George, bothe circa 1983, everyone from Costume National to Zegna to Carrot sells Gibbs sells them.

In the second case, especially, I strongly suggest the vintage/thrift shop route. Designers have been trying to convince us to wear the vest sans dress shirt for the longest time. The closest they got, imo, was Prada F/W 2000-2001 (I believe that's the right year), the "Western collection", although I would have serious doubts any of the models in that campaign wouldn't get a real life beat down if they actually walked into a western saloon, either in 1890 or in 2006. The model above is no exeption. Clint Eastwood has pullled off the look well in some movies, but, and no disrespect meant, there is only one Clint Eastwood.

Thanks a ton for the replies.

I'm really liking the Acne vest, but I'm definitely starting to rethink actually wearing it after some of the replies.

I figured that some of those brands might carry it, but I figured I'd check and make sure no one had something similiar they really liked.

Peace.

I'd rethink it. Either you can really pull it off, or you are really going to look like an idiot. Statistically, you are going likely to end up in the latter camp. The cardigan thing, on the other hand, can be pulled off pretty well. If you are really confident, go with the real old man version (Mike C. does this, and I can imagine, well.) Otherwise, wear a more modern cut (I have a hooded Cloak one that buttons all the way up from F/W 2003 that wears more like jacket).

APC makes a cardigan, but it's black.
