An acceptable amount for pattern matching to be "off" after a trip to the tailor?

Let's say you have a plaid jacket and need it taken in a bit at the lower back. If the lines line up perfectly when it goes in, should it absolutely line up perfectly when it comes back or is there a little leeway? 1/8 inch? 1/4 inch?

None.

anyone else? none is ideal of course, but... does anyone else think any amount is acceptable?

I have probably obtained a dozen alterations that affected the previously-perfect alignment of fabric patterns, and in nearly every case the pattern (simple stripes usually, but the occasional plaid) was aligned when I received the garment. It's just my two cents, but in the vast majority of circumstances, there is no legitimate reason that a proper alteration requires a pattern disruption.
