Vertu cell phones

I was wondering what you guys think about vertu phones? Does any one own one here? I was looking into them and they are very nice looking and buying one is more of a "statement" then a necessity I guess, but what do you all think?

I used my boss' for a while, he was on Verizon and I had a spare AT&T sim card laying around. Its not a very tech-intensive phone, the buttons seemed like they would stick after a while and the menu was a basic monotone LCD I believe. depends on your need, I think the version I had didn't come with the concierge service, i just ended throwing it back in my boss' desk because i need email and a keyboard on my phone. this was about 3 years ago, so maybe they got better I wouldn't waste my money on one though.

Wasn't Vertu the company that was trying to create a 'timeless' cell phone? I don't see how they're going to pull that off since today's phones are technologically far ahead of phones just a couple of years old.

True but the only reason why anyone would want one is for prestige and yes statement - its a beauty of a phone very slick

Vertu is overpriced crap. The specs are usually shit compared to other phones and they tend to be gaudy as hell.

Extremely overpriced Nokias with ugly bling casings.

While I can possibly see the appeal of an expensive watch with a quality mechanical movement, like say a Patek. I just cannot get why anyone would want to pay such a premium for phones, and very ugly ones at that. After all they're only phones, they have exactly the same electronics as other Nokias.

Bling and vanity are the only reasons I can think of as to why anyone would want a Vertu.

if I were in the market for a phone like that, id rather go for the phone ulysse nardin makes.. Then again, hell freezes over before i ditch the blackberry.

^^^^^^^^^^ Looks like one of those knock-offs called 'Verty' rather than Vertu.

funny story,

a friend who is an international vintage and rare watch dealer uses the vertu whilst he was offered the ulysse nardin phone. He liked the styling of the vertu more

Vertu are cool cause they're so tasteless, it's the pewrfect accessory for a full Zilli outfit.

My friend and his girlfriend both sprung for Vertu's. He's got a smartphone, shes got the bar phone (see above posts). The smartphone runs on Nokia software, which is ... Garbage. Email is a hassle, the menus are less then intuitive, and the hardware is ancient.
