The ultimate deodorant - Page 2

I've tried almost every brand of deodorant, including the "clinical strength" ones, to keep from getting pit stains. In the end, I bought a cheap (something like $2.50) stick of Arm and Hammer Essentials recently and it has been the best by far. It has almost no chemicals in it and yet this is the deodorant that has worked the best for me. It makes the think that all the hardcore antiperspirants were making me sweat more as a result of the chemicals. Purely anecdotal, but still.

Although, the deodorant does wear off by early evening. Generally I have to put on some extra around 6pm or so after applying it initially around 6am, but that isn't untenable.

I'm using the Mitchum SmartSolid. I think I still sweat a bit when I played about 1 hour of pretty intense basketball but I smelled my pits and there was no smell.

I tried the Mitchum clear gel a while back and hated it. Not only did it not prevent sweat, it had an unpleasant odor itself. I've been using Gillette Clinical Strength for a while now and it seems to be fine. I wish it was unscented though. It would be nice if there was something that would effectively block sweat that did not have aluminum, but I haven't found anything.

Try a small dab of baking soda. Works like a charm.

You might also want to try a salt crystal deodorant (health food shop). These work amazing and last for a full day, but eventually stop working - usually after a few months. Apparently the body's pH shifts a bit and you have to reset it by washing your armpits with a bit of apple vinegar. Never tried.

I think the best way to take care of smelly armpits is to eat a healthy diet and drink lots of water. I haven't put a single cream/spray/stick to my pits in over two years and I smell and feel great.

re: Sherman's post...

On my kicking it around the house, don't have to be anywhere important days I also use baking soda (about 1/8 teaspoon) dabbed in the tiniest (!) bit of water. It doesn't work as well as the Degree I'm used to, but most of the time I'm sweat free and smell free by the end of the day.

It has its drawbacks...

- if the baking soda isn't dissolved completely it can irritate your pits
- if you DO end up getting sweaty you'll have a white ring around your sweat spot. again, that's why just wear it when I'm around the house. The good thing is ring comes out with ease, unlike the discoloration some deodorants leave on shirts.

I'm thinking about giving the Arm and HAmmer deodorant a try too...

I've heard that the best form of deodorant is to simply stick your finger in your armpit then wipe it on everyone else's upper lip. I've heard this would also work for controlling sweaty nutsack odor, as well.

Personally, I use Old Spice "classic". The high endurance smells to strong and perfumey, in my opinion. Mitchum gave me a rash under my arms that looked like ringworm. Fuck Mitchum. Finger, upper lip.

I'm pretty sure this is the stuff I use (I know it's Old Spice something), and I find it works really well. I also agree Arm and Hammer works well, though not really all day, plus I find it flakes off and gets on my shirts/inside my pants (when I have my undershirt tucked in). Also the other day I used Sure, which is obviously women's deodorant, and while it definitely had a female scent, it worked really, really, really well. I was actually considering getting some, but I feel weird using women's deodorant. I'd be curious to know though if anyone here uses it, or any other women's deodorant in general, and how you liked it on a daily basis. I've heard they have more anti-perspirant than most mens' brands, which would be good for preventing pit stains.

I use the Axe sticks. I have no affinity for the brand or their marketing but it smells good and does not irritate my skin like other brands I tried. Women have commented that I smell good and I do not wear cologne. I have never tried "specialty" deodorants. Lavender-scented deodorant just sounds gay.

I use the Crystal one and have had pretty good luck. I gave up the chemical DS about 2 years ago.

If I'm jogging or something where I'll get sweaty I use the Crystal and mix it with another one from the healthfood store but I forget the brand....

The only trouble with the Crystal is if you drop it it cracks... it's basically a big stick of salt...

I've tried the solid Crystal and the roll-on, but my problem is that the crystal itself (and the applicator in the case of the roll-on) get smelly. And yes, I only applied it after showering.

I used Arm & Hammer a while back and it was the best thing I had ever used. And then I couldn't find it at Wal-Mart or Target so I bought a stick of Tom's of Maine and I wanted to die, it was double the price and wasn't worth a dime of it. I found the Arm & Hammer deodorant at nearby supermarket and I stocked up, and I'm not going back to anything else. For an unscented deodorant, it smells pretty good. That's probably because there is orange in it but looking at the ingredient list, I recognized almost every word on it. Worth every penny.

i normally switch between Mitchum and Arm&Hammer unscented solids. an occasional baking soda treatment when shiet stops working__ maybe it resets the ph level(?) or somethin. all i know is, it works.
