Is teh RJMan sophisticated enough to burn a DVD and stick it in his new DVD player or press buttons on his remote real fast? If so, here are region hacks for almost every Blu-Ray player on the market: DVD Player and Blu-ray Player region codes

Why bother playing DVDs from Freedom when you can watch this all day

+1 for Oppo. I've the 971H (regular dvd player) and it's perfect. Their BD player seems great.

The Oppo DVD players are very nice (I have the 980H), and allowed you to easily disable region-coding --- it was fully documented by Oppo.

However, not wanting to piss off the BD association, Oppo deliberately left out the region disable feature on the BD-83, hence all the hacks out there.

RJ, I have a Samsung 1400 which I bought for $300 at Best Buy. It works very well. The new version is even better. There is a $350 Sony that is also fantastic which sells for much less at Fry's. I'm not sure how the region coding works exactly but I have read there are some hacks for that.

I might add I also have an Oppo 980H and it is a great player for DVDs. I do not have their BluRay player yet but it is getting terrific reviews.
