Denim width in inches. I don't quite understand?

Ok I am right now looking at www.revolveclothing.com and a description of one of the jeans, notably the ES Hemingway. They say, 18" in the knee breaks to 20" at the leg opening.

How do they come to 18" and 20"? I would like to know how wide the bottom part of the jeans are and at the knee but 18" and 20" just seems incorrect, yet I see this all the time. When I measure even my largest jean bottoms, my Diesel Kurratts they are only 10" at the bottom and that is quite wide...

Just wondering if there is some magic formula that I am missing.

Circumference of the hem. Double the 10" and voila.

Oh. I thought Circumference was always C = PI * Diameter. I'll half all the numbers now like you said, 10" makes much more realistic sense. Thanks

Your equation is right, but when you are looking at the jeans lying flat, that's not the diameter - it's half the circumference. When the jeans are hanging so the legs are 'tubes', if you measured across the hem, that would be the diameter. That times pi would be 20".

What J said. Math was never my strong suit.

Chuck Norris knows the last digit of pi.

When they get bloody (instantly, if you're Chuck) they need to be washed. If you are not Chuck Norris, you are just a potential Chuck Norris victim, so they will probably never need to be washed in your pathetic short lifespan.
