What green habits to you have

Has anyone started any new green living habits that you want to share with all of us?

I try to do all the recycling and such as I can, I watch the energy that we use. I try to limit the usage of my vehicle, but sometimes I don't feel like I am doing enough. Does anyone have any green habits that are out of the ordinary realm for the rest of us?

Growing up my parents were always big recyclers. Before our city started collecting recyclables we used to drive 45 minutes with a car full of old plastic bottles and glass jars to the closest recycling plant. We also had a compost pile in the backyard. I'm still pretty big on recycling and conserving energy around the house. The only thing I do that's kind of out of the ordinary is that I stop the water in the shower after stepping in and getting all wet and before washing off, but that's not too extreme.

On a semi-side rant, I hate people who let the water run when they brush their teeth and shave.

I've tried to do the re-usable grocery bag thing, but the problem is where does one keep the damn things? I get my groceries home, fold up the bags and then forget them the next time I go to the grocer. Then I took to immediately running the bags back out to my car. And then I forgot to bring them into the store. This being green is a lot of work.

+1

All this recycling business, sorting thru your own trash and separate out the glass from the metal from the paper......that's A LOT of work.

I'm lazy just getting the trash out every week for the garbage company to haul away.

God placed me here to consume the bounty of the earth in all its guises and Im enthusiastically going with what God says even when I dont actually agree with it. Kinda like the shameless suck ups who praise every banal notion J expresses in the transparent moderation thread.

And you shouldn't unless you want to do it for yourself. I hate these trendy bitches who jump on this green shit every 10 years. Been on this planet for 36 years and this is the 3rd time around to see this trend come and go.

That being said I was brought up not to be wasteful. I walk or ride a bike most places because I like to.

People are surprised to find out I grew up in the 70-80s in a solar powered house. The house is still there with updated panels. It didn't work to well to be honest but technology has finally caught up.

I am planning to buy a house in 2 years. I have the information on putting up wind turbines and the areas that will allow it. Seems that in PA if you put energy back into the system you get paid for it. I kinda like the idea of having these turbines pay for themself and hopefully pay my property taxes as well.

I grow my own herbs (cilantro, sage, rosemary etc) and I bus to work everyday.

If those reusable tote bags are more sartorially pleasing, then I'd start using them too.
