ahem, as i live in said fair city ... the aquarium is terrific. belmont shore is good for walking (sunnin lebanese is the best place to eat). But if you like style, you'll probably be happier spending an hour or two at the aforementioned Retro Row on Fourth Street. Great mid-century design stores, especially Xcape and Deja Vu. There's also a dealer collection called Vintage Collective or something like that. Two good places to eat there: No. 9 Noodle for stylish Vietnamese food and Lola's for slightly funky/slightly stylish Mexican. If you're going to stay downtown, probably the best places to eat are King's Fish House (keep it simple), 555 Steaks or Tracht's, which is a kind of modern chop house. All in all, Long Beach is a nice place to live, but not the world's greatest tourist stop. The Blue Line and Red Line are handy, cheap and will take you many more places ... Downtown LA, Hollywood, Pasadena, etc.
