Gooch signs with AC Milan

Gooch just signed a three year deal with AC Milan!

Totally out of left field. Over at BigSoccer they had nearly 30 clubs rumored to be interested in him--and AC Milan was not on the list. So much for rumors.

Good move and good luck to Gooch. Well-deserved move and pay day after his increasingly good play and wonderful performance at the Confeds Cup. That's some big-time football.

Yup. Second US player in Serie A (Lalas played for Padova back in the 90s).

I hope he gets to play, and doesn't sit the bench...may have been better for him to sign with a smaller club so he's guaranteed to play...look at poor Jozy...can't even get a game in the Segunda.

That is not going to replace Kaka, but a decent signing. Will look forward to Milan's next campaign.

Still, not bad to learn behind Nesta and Maldini (assuming he stays on in some sort of coaching capacity).

Now I get it ("Gooch"). NYT said he was signed as a possible successor to Maldini? I also wonder if this is the best move for him. AC Milan is one of the top teams in the world in terms of infrastructure and most players' dream destination, but I fear he may not get much playing time.

Someone must have destroyed the tapes from when he was on loan at Newcastle. It was bad. Very bad.

He played well in the Confed Cup, so lets hope he can keep it going in the right direction.

I've heard more than one person refer to Gooch as a scapegoat for Newcastle's poor performance. Either way, Gooch's play has noticeably improved from just a couple years ago.

As to getting play time, there's been a retirement and the other CBs are getting up there in age aren't they? All 30 or over with injuries?

I had big hopes for Onyewu in Newcastle as I felt he had all the physical attributes needed to make it in the prem, but unfortunately he sorta has that clumsiness about him. Direct replacement for Senderos for free IMO. another big clumbsy defender who would've cost Milan 6m euroes.
