Blue Collar jobs you would like to try for a day or two

As I said in the other thread, I would love to spend a day or two shining shoes. Ditto ski patrol.

why? When i think of blue collar jobs, i think of spending the day as an assembly line worker. I think there would be few and far between that would decide to spend a day doing that for shits and giggles.

Ski Patrol is a blue collar job?

I thought it was something you do to ski free on the weends and maybe meet teh chicks?

Just today, I was wondering what it would be like to be a window washer for a skyscraper. I would like to try it, just to see if I could handle the fear.

Something that would make me all muscley. I'm too dainty and skinny fat.

Something where I have to think about what I'm doing, but where I don't actually have to think at a higher level. Just something where I can feel good about the product/job, but not have to actually worry about anything else.

Oh yeah, and in no way be responsible for, supervise, etc., anyone else.

Nothing that involves crawling around, climbing inside of spaces, etc., like a plumber, or getting stains on my hands that won't come out.

i always wondered how it would feel like being an overnight security guard somewhere

I wouldn't mind being a lobsterman in Maine for a summer.

for a day, i'd try catching crabs in Alaska OR a roadie in a music festival [eg, Coachella, Glasto, SxSW, NxNE, etc.] OR a lightman @Penthouse shoot__ httn! on the fluffer angle.

There are plenty of blue collar jobs, not all of which are totally mindless. When I say blue collar, I mean anything that isn't office work or having to do with academia/research. Work with your hands, if you will.

I gather most of us are office slaves given the amount of time we spend poasting. Nothing wrong with that, but I also admire people who are good with their hands - chefs, mechanics, plumbers, tailors etc. That's why This Old House is so money. Or those steelworkers in the old pictures sitting on beams held by cranes. It's a level of physical expertise that most office workers never experience. If most of these guys weren't union people I'd say they were 100% win.

At the end of the day you actually get to be satisfied with your work. Beats poasting while waiting for some a-hole to send you data.

+1 on something where I'm outdoors in the summer getting muscley and a good workout. It makes you think, you'd imagine construction workers to be really buff from the stuff they do, but a lot of them I see are pot-bellied fatties.

I'd like to be a brick mason. I think the neat and orderly product of their work has to be pretty satisfying.

Shouldn't the very premise that "blue collar jobs" are kind of cute little things one might consider slumming at as a lark (only for a day or two, mind you) qualify this for DT?
