The Ashes 2009

Figure there are probably enough Brits and Aussie's on here to make this worthwhile.

Predictions: With Lee out I think England have a very good chance to start the series off with a win. Going to be a close series which I think England will win 2-1.

Let the bashing begin.

KP has to bat well this series for England to have a chance. He's the only truly world class batsman in the side. I think Clarke will have a good series and Hussey will make runs. Australia 3-1

Australia wins handily. Reports of their demise is greatly exaggerated. Despite not having a decent spinner Cardiff is a good place for spinners, Lee still looks good, and I wouldn't be surprised if the attack wakes up. England has no shot.

Whoa! I just mentally 'reheard' all of edinatlanta's posts in an Aussie accent

Lived there for a while as a child and had a slight Australian accent if that helps things.

I get the impression the ozzies have the upper hand with the bat, England with the ball. So very many unknowables though, that's why its so fascinating... I'm not far from Cardiff and its been humid here the last few days, despite the wicket supposedly being hard, the seamers might be able to do something.

Christian Vieri, Italian National footballer (AC Milan, Inter Milan, Monaco, Fiorentina, etc.) grew up in Oz and speaks English w/ a thick Australian accent. His last team? Atalanta!

Is it ever televised in the US, for homesick poms and sandgropers?

I haven't seen a match since McGill left the side.

Not sure if it's televised, as with most sports I'll be watching thanks to www.myp2p.eu

If you can tune in to Test Match Special you definitely should - I know people who hate cricket who love TMS http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/tms/default.stm I don't know if you can listen online outside the UK, definitely worth trying though.

I don't think you can listen to TMS from the US anymore. Very fond memories involved with TMS too, although not sure it will be the same without Bill Frindall.

I love the ashes...but I hate getting no sleep

I'm from NZ, but i'm tuning into the Ashes.

The last couple of years i've been at uni so no Skytv, so i've come off rugby a bit and cricinfo.com has fueled my addiction to cricket - especially during exams, it's the best procrastination.

Anyway for me the most interesting player to watch will be Ravi Bopara (he's on 35 as i write and starting to look good). We all know Pietersen can play, let's see if Bopara's centuries against the Windies were no fluke.

also picking Panesar is a big call. I mean it'll be interesting to see how he bowls in tandem with Swann, but i think it's a bit defensive to be picking 2 spinners, kinda not showing enough faith in the pacers. Is Panesar the 4th best bowler in the country? is he the 4th most likely to take wickets? i don't think so, i think the only reason they picked him is to have him bowl in tandem with Swann.

woops, Bopara's gone!
