ebook readers

saw a cool one advertised recently

www.coolerbooks.com

looks a little simpler and cheaper than the kindle. I don't see that I would use a lot of the kindle features, and I really don't want to be tied to only buy books from amazon.

any thoughts on kindle, sony reader or this one?

The biggest thing that sucks about the kindle is that it doesn't do pdf. I was considering it, but once i found that out, I scratched it off my list. I have a mountain of tech books that i'd love to put on a reader, but it's gonna have to support pdf. If someone could figure out the drm, it would be really sweet if upon buying a print copy of a book, you could get the electronic copy for free as well. I've spent like 1500 on technical books this year and it pisses me off to no end that I can't stick them all on an eink reader. There really aren't a lot of options yet though.

I think the Kindle DX has native pdf support and there were free ways of getting pdfs on the reg kindle 2.0 if you search. Problem with e-ink readers is even the more expensive ones like the sony suffer from from bad screen refraction. Anything cheaper and they just fall apart from regular use. Unfortunate price but the kindle is really the best ereader out now.
