Did not know this was extant until tonight. It is currently downloading and I cannot express how excited I am. His wife, Laurie, has apparently been doing a lot of work to keep the Pepper legacy alive. Aside from releasing these never-before-heard concerts and recordings, she is producing a documentary about AP's life. Here is her site: http://straightlife.info/

Pepper was one of the best ever. Thanks for the link.

Yes he was. His live stuff from the 80's is among the best jazz ever recorded, IMO.

You're welcome. Only listened to the first song but it is, as predicted, out of this world.

You guys need to get this. The entire band is so tight, especially the pianist. I at first thought it was the guy who appeared on Pepper's earlier 1980s recordings (Live at the Village Vanguard, etc.) but it's not; Roger Kellaway is the new pianist. He apparently wrote the theme for "All in the Family." He is on FIRE! BTW, Art closes the set with a great take of "When You're Smiling" on the clarinet! It's great.

"Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on this particular recording is the best one Art did. I've heard 3 or 4 other versions, mostly from his final Village Vanguard shows in the late 70s...this just exceeds them all. Your heart falls out of your chest when you hear this. My god.

Love that photo by William Caxton of Pepper walking uphill on Fresno Street near Silver Lake in LA, cigarette in one hand while cradling his horn.

Bumping this because it is such a crucial recording in the history of jazz music. And it is great music. I'd give anything to see Art in concert.
