I don't know, but I sure hope so, and that someday, through some sideways window in time, I can say more than those last goodbyes of this morning as he lay weak and helpless, and begged him to dream of happy things, like lobster, wet food, laundry, my sock drawer and sunbeams, and told him I'd never forget him.

My familiar, my security blanket, my ward, my link to sanity or to a particularly harmless insanity.

The RJ cat. 1992(?) - 2006.

May your rest be as deep, as sweet, as comfy as it was in life.

Holy shit. I am really sorry, RJ. He was quite a looker too, the RJCat. Losing a companion animal sux0rs

RJ -

Having lost some very important feline companions in the past, I feel your pain and your loss.

My sympathies and condolences to you.

You and the RJ Cat will be in my prayers - and yes, cats do go to heaven.

My condolences. You may have lost the RJ Cat's body, but his spirit will never leave you.

A shame about your cat, Neil. My brother's cat died about six months ago and he took it very hard. Animals can be great friends to us and they see us through a lot, so we miss them very much when they are gone.

Sorry to hear it, RJ. Your cat was like a member of the Forum.

Catso also faded away until he was too weak to move. He went downhill with surprising speed. It was very sad when the purr that could drown out a diesel locomotive was forever silenced.

My sympathies.

Cat heaven is filled with wide-open yards with veritable bushes of catnip, houses with their doors perpetually standing open where one is never scolded for ripping the shit out of the couch and friendly humans appear every time one craves a petting. Litter boxes are always accessible and perpetually clean. All the dogs are wussies, there are lots of small critters that are sporting about getting toyed with and torn to shreds, and cars, lawnmowers and vacuum cleaners do not exist. All streams and rivers flow with fresh milk.

I've read that Bengal cats will actually jump in the shower with you. I guess that's either cute or disconcerting, depending on how you look at it.

I actually want a Savannah to go with my Great Dane... We also have a little tortie that's my favorite cat in the world. I'm such a sucker.

Just want to say thanks to everyone who expressed condolences or sympathies. It's touching that he really does, it seems, have a Posse.

My condoleances, I lost a Cat too this year that was born around the same time as the RJ cat, we do get attached to our feline companions, don't we.

You should read Jean-François Vilar "polars", the main character has a love of cats like no others.

Is this book available in English?

"Polar" is French slang for mystery novel. You could do an Amazon search on Jean-Francois Vilar to see if there are translations, though. Or there are those Lillian Jackson Braun "Cat Who..." mysteries, though I've never read one.
