I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of cold poison, work twenty-nine hours a day at the mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our dad would kill us, and dance about on our graves singing "Hallelujah."

At least you had a bed. We had to sleep on the floor, and couldn't even roll over because there was a hole in the floor and we didn't want to wake up 6 feet under

We lived in a shoe box in the middle of the road. You try to tell kids today how we had it and they just do not want to believe it.

When I was a youngster, my family had to speak Dutch at home because we could not afford English.

When I didn't finish my kobe beef and foie gras, my parents would try to guilt me with stories about the starving 99%ers on Styleforum.
