The pace is quicker in big metropoles and people more stressed by the tube , traffic and so on...

I used to work in a hotel in Paris when I was a student and most problems they were encountering were with taxi drivers overcharging them...

Most tourist do not experience the real Paris, London or New-York...

I don't get why people assume that people in NYC are rude. I've only had 2-3 people be outright obnoxious rude to me living here for the past 3 years. I've had worse experiences in Philadelphia/Boston/San Francisco on more numerous occasions just visiting there. I've lived in Boston and SF for extended periods of time, and those cities are a lot more pushy and rude.
NYC inhabitants have actually been some of the nicer people in general. France is like that too, I was shocked at how nice people in France were to my wife and I.

I've only had people be rude to me a handful of times, but I'm a VERY likable person.

I observe people being assholes to each other more often than say back in my hometown, but it's not an ALARMING amount.

I think the rudeness in my hometown is way worse than in new york. My hometown is full of a bunch of 2 cent millionaires who think they are god's gift to the world, but in the big mean city they are just another prick. There is a lot of competition in my hometown because of its somewhat small profile.

For a period my girlfriend worked in times square and I used to stand outside and people watch while waiting for her to get out. I always made a point to be polite to tourists, and give people info if they asked and take pictures of them.

Then of course when it came to walking and getting somewhere I was cursing and throwing people out of the way.

I think some of the rudest people I have encountered in New York have been Italian tourists. They think they own the world.

Well, I mean this is America, the English can walk around like they own the place. Maybe even the Portuguese if you want to get technical. But seriously, **** those Indians.

Good for hiking too.

I admit I wore cargo shorts rampantly through college. I've learned better since. Even then I never did cargo pants, the lines are just weird.

I have experienced amazing gestures of helpfulness and friendliness quite unexpectedly during some of my visits to NYC. Of course there are the "get-the-****-outta-my-way" people walking down the street, but being from the Midwest, NY is not nearly as "rude" as some would make it out to be.
