Fish and grits is a Southern thing, which is why Outkast mentions fish and grits, not shrimp.

Was talking about now in the South.

Piob, this is for you. From a text on the history of Korean public finance we're producing in preparation for some conference or another.

The basic policy objective of the social welfare system was to encourage people to provide for themselves.

The emphasis is in the original text.

(also, some social welfare systems probably do accomplish this. The one in question clearly doesn't and wasn't designed to)

There's this guy who works at my company. He's a lawyer, probably makes a ton of money and looks like he is seriously 100 years old. He uses a walker to get around and even using the walker it takes him hours to get like 10 feet. On top of this is goes out to eat every day and seeing him walking all decrepit in the lobby literally makes me want to kill myself. Why doesn't this dude just retire? He looks like he is struggling just to breathe.

All his friends are dead so he would have no one to talk to.

He doesn't talk to anybody now because everybody is afraid that he is the Crypt Keeper.

Maybe you should befriend him for the inheritance?

Not worth it!

His job is probably the thing keeping him alive and he likely knows it. So many people retire and then promptly die.

Damn, I'd rather die than go through what he does every day. Gotta give it to him.

I almost guarantee you the only reason he's still alive is because he still works. If he stopped working he'd be dead in a week.

Honestly I understand where he's coming from. I can't imagine actually retiring. I would be bored stiff, even if I was rich. Fortunately my excessive alcohol consumption will ensure I won't live to 100 so I don't have to worry about turning into the crypt keeper.

I do not understand this post at all. I know that the words are English words and they seem to follow a correct and familiar grammatical structure but I can't seem to parse any sensible meaning from them.

As I've said here before one of my favorite people is a very powerful attorney who is 85. Goes into the office daily and is very active socially. The only time he does not work full schedules is the summer when he only works Tuesday-Thursday as he flies to his summer vacation home every weekend.

This guy can barely talk.
