And to stop us from forgetting other agaves are used to make spirits, I love sotol. Much more floral. Made from the "desert spoon" agave in the highlands.

Hacienda de Chihuahua is really good. I love that stuff.

Yes, the majority of alcohol consumed is because of price point and not quality. That doesn't take away the market for premium products. There is still a very large market. Patron sold 2.4 million cases last year. That's between 100-150 million in revenue. That is one tequila brand.

I found this: http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/08/02/us-tequila-usa-idUSTRE7711RL20110802

I think you're reading some points there that I didn't make. The move towards premium spirits in general in the US is relatively recent. It's even more recent for tequila and just starting for rum. The group of people that thinks tequila and rum are brutal harsh spirits only suitable for shots and mixing with Coke are the people (largely) who haven't gotten into that movement towards the premium side. I don't really see how that's cherry picking anything.

mount gay and tonic is my summer spirit drink of choice. The competitive sailor's beverage.

Still don't know why it works. Bacardi and tonic is gross but for some reason, the rum and tonic with a squeeze of lime works great when the rum is mount gay eclipse.

Haven't tried it with fancier rums since, as with a gin and tonic, it hardly seems fair to waste a nice spirit on something as strongly flavored as tonic.

That's why you add more gin.

Hendrick's and tonic with a cucumber is my favorite summer daytime drink. Add more ice than normal (it's hot outside anyway) and get tonic that isn't too sweet -- sometimes the diet tonic actually works better.

Mount Gay and tonic is a great drink, and I agree that it is a mystery why it works so well. Have you tried it with any of their aged versions? I've been curious to do so but it's rare to find a bar that stocks them. Hell, Mount Gay Eclipse is pretty uncommon.

I'm not sure I get a couple's massage. It just seems awkward unless both masseuses are hot women.

I got one once... It was OK, but it was kinda weird. There's not much couple-y about it... You can't really talk much while they are doing it, so it's like youre just both in the same room not talking to each other. Was pretty weird.

In all honesty I think massages in general are weird. I never feel like they are worth the money and time, happy ending or not.

Wait until you are at least 30. I would cut a bitch for a massage right now. I need to find a deadbeat client who is a masseuse.

I love a good massage I just thing the couples thing is odd. They try to portray it as romantic and I just can't see how that could be.

Sounds pretty "couple-y" to me.

95% sure I've made one with the Extra Old (and one straight from barbados with the slightly higher alcohol content at that).
Not sure it seemed worth it...certainly not memorable. I would rather have that with an ice cube and a squeeze of lime than add the tonic.

I bought a bottle of the Black a couple of weeks ago, but have yet to do anything besides taste it
