I personally believe that this is, in some sense, why some people achieve what they want. When I played football I was always 15 minutes earlier before the training. Cause if you were 1 minute late, you earned a ticket to "La Fiesta" (The Party). Sounds good... but it doesn't. You had to stay after the training and they put you some exercises that exhausted you and you end up puking. You won't leave until you puke. So getting early to everything is something I'm used to.

That sounds like torture. Why would anybody sign up for such a thing where there was potential for this to happen? confused.gif

Well, that is kinda the rules of the game. The message they tried to inculcate you is to get early and don't be late. In the 13 years I played, only one time I was late and it was because that day I ate at my cousin's house. From that they on, I never ever were late again.

You would be able to say that. The coach will probably tell you: "Ok, you are free to go... and also you're out of the team. Please don't come back". When you play football and you feel passionate about it, hearing the words that you are out of the team, I think it worse than getting fired from a job. Hahaha.

I'm usually early to meetings and other functions, can't stand to be late.

I don't get people that get in a bad mood because someone is a few minutes late to social functions.

That said, showing up late to meetings is stupid. Also, I'm usually never late.

somebody being late to a party you were supposed to meet at? Totally ok.

Somebody late for a restaurant reservation and you're left "oh I'm sure they'll be here shortly, don't give away our table!" is lame. A reservation isn't a suggested time. Or in a theater when you're the dick whose laying across a row of seats "these are all taken!!", or, even worse, when you have your friends' tickets and there's no rentry so you can't go in until they're present.

Your "stellar" employees love their work, feel valued and therefore care less about the comp. The more more marginal=mostly the opposite therefore money might be the only thing they are working for.

Those things wouldn't bother me. I would sit at the table or wait for the person at the movie theatre. I just don't see the big deal. It's only a big deal if you make it one.

I was about to add in 'it's only a big deal because American culture dictates that it's a big deal', but I try not to post too much about the general silliness of some things in America because people get all upset, and I think I already passed my monthly allowance in the coffee discussion.

You know what else is rude? Getting pissy at someone for being late to something that's supposed to be fun and ruining the experience for yourself and others.

So y'all can give a big hrmph! to their rudeness, meanwhile I'll just relax and have a drink while I wait.

... because I get there early to sit at the back of the theater. Or because I love wandering around a dark theater "is this seat taken? It is, ok, thanks. Is this seat taken? Thanks. Oh, hey guys, there's two seats here and two seat way over there that you can take. At least we're both at the same theater!"
