Things you just don't get - Page 299

Not a complaint, just something I don't get.

Nibble bids on ebay. I have a BB Cashmere turtleneck sweater on ebay, 10 day auction starting last night with $1 opening bid. Someone makes a bid of unknown amount. It shows as $1 because that's the way ebay works.

Second bidder comes along and bids $1.25. Rats! That didn't get it. Bid $1.75. WTF!!! That didn't get it either.

This guy ends up making 21 bids of $1 or less, getting all the way up to $20 on this $348 retail sweater before he gives up. 21 bids.

That's who you are dealing with on ebay/craigslist/B&S cheap assholes.

Anyone who doesn't snipe is automatically an idiot. Those people are the worst sort of idiots.

On the seller end, I really don't get reserves. Saw one with a fairly new seller, had a reserve auction starting at $1 with a BIN at some much higher number. The bidding went up almost to the BIN, and never passed the reserve. wtf was the point of that?

For that matter, people who set a best offer option on a fairly cheap, just want to get it out of here type item, say, under $20, but set it to reject anything more than 5% less. If you're not going to even look at any offer that knocks off more than a buck, just don't farking bother.

I failed to mention in my post that my ebay auctions are all no reserve. My experience is that the sales price ends higher with a low starting bid plus no reserve. It is rare that something goes ultra cheap, but no problem, I don't mind someone getting a great deal now and then.

As a buyer, I refuse to get involved in a reserve auction. Set a starting price you can live with if you are afraid of taking a little bit of risk.

I never understood that too...

It's not like Facebook gives you a lot of options, and we don't always want to add our "sorry for your loss" to the endless stream.

I don't get people who bag up their pooch's poo and then leave the bag on the sidewalk. I know it's gross, that's why you're supposed to bag it and trash it!

I keep hearing radio ads for alcoholic beverages where some guy is giving a rousing, sentimental speech about the virtues of the product and the important role it plays in the life of the social group. In the background you can hear the other members of the group crying out "yeah!" or "woo hoo!" I've never witnessed anything remotely like this in real life. Why all of a sudden do advertisers think it makes a great setting for an ad?

People calling you from India to sell something you do not need and using staff you cannot understand..

I  don't understand why people will ask "do you work here" when they were just watching a sales rep explain something to me.

You should stop wearing a blue polo when shopping at Best Buy then.

Sometimes the auction is set to end at an awkward time for you. In those cases you are better off just bidding what you are willing to spend. The seller may outbid you with a shill account, but it's a possible lost sale if he does.
