Things you just don't get - Page 1555

I agree, the earlier the better. If I'm doing all day interviews my attention wanders later in the day and annoying things the candidate does (particularly long run-on answers) tend to feel magnified. Also I tend not to explore follow-up lines of questioning more fully because I'm not as fresh or, quite frankly, interested anymore.

Unfair, sure, but also human nature

Morning for sure. Last slot of the days suffers.

Also, later in the day means more time for shit to go wrong - interview scheds run late, interviewers get called away for emergencies, you spill coffee on your suit, or - this is a GF specific issue - you get distracted blowing someone in the restroom

HRoi makes a good point.

Thanks for the thoughts. I will definitely aim for the pre-lunch morning slots. How about day of the week though? I want to avoid Monday because, Monday.

I'm thinking Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday.

Just my take but earlier in the week is better. It's not unheard of for a pick to get made early and then the rest of the interviews just for process.

So, in retrospect, I should have provided this info too:

- The recruiter emailed me late Friday afternoon last week; I was out traveling for Labor Day weekend festivities by then so I haven't responded yet (planning to do so tonight, which I think is reasonable given the holiday weekend)
- She asked for good days and times for this week and next week (i.e., no days and time slots provided for me to choose from)
- Tomorrow (Tuesday) obviously won't be happening and I think Wednesday is a stretch too
- The earliest I think I could go for THIS week is Thursday and Friday; then I can propose Tuesday and Wednesday for next week too
- So, based on the idea of "go sooner rather than later to beat out other potential applicants," I'm going to propose Thursday and Friday this week (so, two days this week and two next week)
- To take it further, I will ask if we can schedule, or at least start, in the morning -- it's going to be 4-5 interviews, including a lunch with some of the team, throughout the day

Thoughts? I know I am overcomplicating this by a significant margin, but again, I've never been excited for such a job opportunity so I'm really trying to optimize my chances.

Yeah, I'd say earlier is better because there's less other shit piling up before you get there. Not sure about the day, except Monday is probably bad. I'll probably have forgotten about the interview over the weekend, then be irritated when I show up Monday and realize I have it on my calendar.

If you can't be bright, at least you can be early. ;-)

an apropos corollary to the SF motto: well, you look good anyway

Tuesday next week means they've had all weekend to think about why they should pick people that interviewed this week.

I think I'm one of the first candidates to be interviewed for this position on-site. Research online shows that being one of the first can actually be at your disadvantage because you just become a baseline against which people measure subsequent candidates (I.e, you don't necessarily stick out as the best, just the baseline).

Either way, there's only so much in my control. I gave them a lot of options and all I can do is hope for the best.
