I dream of a day when the American public will learn to write HIPAA rather than HIPPA. I can't count how many times I've seen people pontefelcating online about some supposed HIPPA violation that they are up in arms about demand immediate prosecution and disbarment of doctor.

What's really funny is the way it's completely ignored at times and at other times cited as why staff won't talk to someone when they can really release the requested information.

Emergency rooms? At your local pharmacy? Even physician offices, both blabber mouthed MAs on the phone or talking to each other and thin walls in exam rooms? Not a shred of HIPPA is present.

speaking of health privacy, one of the most disturbing things to me is how we (apparently?) lose our rights to privacy when we die. then they literally lay us out on a fucking slab, cut us open, and record the results (which in the case of lurid/sensational/untimely celebrity deaths gets published front page). truly truly ghoulish.

Whaaaa? Corpses are not protected by HIPPA?!

it's not so much the lack of the protections as the glee with which that shit gets spooned up. bon appetit!

I have a few relatives who are physicians. Sometimes they will be like, hey I saw so and so in the office the other day, and whatnot. I have told them, you shouldn't even tell people you saw people in your office, you never know this info could get back to them and they can make a stink about it.

Sometimes I think to myself that I should quit my job and buy the coffee shop from my friend. I love coffee and the shops that it is in and I spend a lot of free time in them so why not, right? The dream of this seems so cushy and wonderful. So after my date flaked on me last Friday I grabbed a drink with my friend that owns the shop (and two other coffee shops). He was depressed and complaining about his life in many ways. I told him I I often think about buying the coffee shop from him and essentially being him as that might improve my life. It was interesting to not only hear the headaches of owning a shop, but how somebody living the life that you might think is "better" than yours can have so many negative thoughts on it. I still think his financial issues can be handled because he's a scatterbrain and not very savvy when it comes to such things so I think there are many efficiencies to gain there, but still it was all interesting to hear. I wish I could help him out more with his life as he is a great guy.

That's essentially what he told me. He's like "I bought your old couch for my apartment full of roommates when you moved into your condo. Enough said." I didn't really know what to say after that.

First or second summer after I retire I'm getting a rental in Paso Robles and working in a tasting room.

As somebody dealing with a brother coming down from an acid trip, don't do them near me.
