Things you just don't get - Page 1544

Same in IL.

Although I suspect brokencycle is right that they may not actually verify the information.

I have to enter my policy info and insurer, but I don't think that the website cares that my insurance is always expiring within a month of my registration renewal date...and it would let me type in whatever I want for the name of the ensurer (it is not like I select "Progressive" from a drop-down list)...so there is no way they are doing automatic lookups.

I'm sure all of he responsible people make sure it is filled out correctly....but I bet that if you are in the poor communities where uninsured driving is common, you can find plenty of people who will tell you how to fill out fake info to get a registration sticker. Unless you get a DUI and are seeking license reinstatement...I doubt they ever verify anything.

Yeah but a goodly % of those are probably knuckle heads like me who always  forget to put the new stickers on which leads to a traffic stop and another ticket because you forgot to put your new ins card in the vehicle and then you get to go down to the courthouse and stand in line to show them that and the new sticker you finally put on the plates

On the first day of class I get to know the students' names. Of course sometimes they go by names that are different from what's on my roster, such as nickname. One of my students said "My name is Jaydun, but I'm known as The Man What Love Pizza." I said "Umm, everyone loves pizza. That's not a very good nickname don't distinguish you from no one else." And then he was like "Oh yeah never thought of it that way. I guess from now on I'll be known as The Man What Love Sexual Acts." I was just like "I am not going to call you that you are out of opportunities I will just call you Jaydun."

I think I have posted about the difficulty in getting liability coverage on rental cars if you aren't a car owner. Collision is easy (many credit cards offer primary coverage, almost all offer secondary coverage, Amex even sells per-rental increased coverage). All of the options are significantly cheaper (or free) than the per-day fee for anything other than a 1 day rental.

Liability seems basically impossible other than paying the per-day fee. You can get non-owner car insurance...but that is marketed towards DUI offenders who need it to get their license reinstated...so it is significantly more expensive than it should be (would cost 2-3x as much as my motorcycle policy just to add a bit of non-owner coverage).

Well...I think I have found the answer.

My company's offering of group excess liability coverage (umbrella policy) now says it offers "First dollar coverage for non-owned/rented automobiles and watercraft", which I don't remember being the case in prior years.

A million dollars of coverage is about $300 a year. Now, it is unlikely I would actually spend this much on rental liability insurance at $15 a day, but I'd been considering signing up for the plan anyways...now that I have assets and shit, I suppose an umbrella policy to protect them makes sense. Things like legal defense coverage are nice to have, and it means I only have to get a moderate amount of coverage on other plans since the $1m of umbrella coverage will kick in afterwards.

I have to verify that it works quite how I think it does...the agent seems to think it will, but it seems dependent on state rules.

I am going to sound really insensitive, but what's the deal with people crying over the epi-pens? First of all, I have never heard of them as I don't suffer from pleb conditions that would require one of these devices, I only have modern, newly evolved conditions of the mente. So my mente medication costs me about $1,200 a year, post insurance. That's a considerable amount of money. These things have a long shelf-life so even if you buy one and don't need it the cost over time isn't that crazy especially considering it is something you need to maybe not die. What am I missing here besides these softies dying off due to unaffordable epi-pens leaving mankind to evolve with better genetics, Darwin style.
