Things you just don't get - Page 148

"Salt Life" bumper stickers on cars with tags from counties hundreds of miles away from saltwater.

I think the stickers are kind of dumb in the first place, but I can deal with it from people who really do spend a lot of time on the water. However, if you are a kid from metro Atlanta whose family owns a vacation condo in the Florida panhandle, you are not living the salt life. You are an annoying tourist.

Is that what those stickers mean? I had thought it meant someone who had done time in prison working on a chain gang in a salt mine.

I think you've spent too much time in prison.

Yeah, it's one of those "lifestyle" things. As in, they live the "ocean lifestyle."

Based upon the demographic I see sporting it in their windows, I don't think they've done a day of manual labor at all, much less on a chain gang.

Hm. I've never seen one of those. Is it a Florida thing?

I think the company is based down there, but it's not exclusively a Florida thing. I live in Georgia, and I seem to see them more often here than when I'm in Florida.

Maybe it's a regional thing?

Maybe it is an asshole thing.

That's my guess. Or maybe a poser thing. Probably both.

President Barack Obama's reelection organization said Tuesday it was "inappropriate" for Robert De Niro to joke at a campaign fundraiser in New York Monday that America wasn't "ready for a white first lady."

"We believe the joke was inappropriate," Olivia Alair, Campaign Press Secretary to the First Lady, said in a statement.

I don't get it. Why is it inappropriate?

From Bobby it is quite funny. Not every wop could get away with that though.
