Things you just don't get - Page 1468

When you have a friend who works out, is in great shape, etc - and then you see them try to catch a football/throw a baseball and is the most uncoordinated person you've ever seen.

Working out and gaining a bunch of mass totally messed up my throwing motion. It was like my body totally forgot the motion, had to retrain everything to get it back.

Swinging a bat still felt natural though.

This American.  If you don't like our lemon juice freedom, go back to Canadaland.

Women's college basketball. Everyone is like "Oh my god how does Connetelcut keep going undefeated winning national championships every single year they are hell of more successful than any men's program!!!"

I don't know if I'm just missing something, but it seems obvious to me why Connecticut goes undefeated wins national championships every year. It's because the number of really, really good women basketball players is small. And they all want to go to the school with the history of winning national championships. When there's an elite player who plays on another team, such as your Brethelny Griner on Baylor team, then they go undefeated win national championship.

mostly true of men's ncaa ball as well. see Duke or Carlmelello Anthony.

yes that is a fair comparison seeing as how Connecticut's women's team has won four national titles in the last four years and Duke's men's team has won five titles total

better comp would be UCLA when wooden was there.

I think the best comparison is Grand Valley State University's run of national championships in dodgeball. (If you think I'm making this up then think again because I am not making it up I am reporting true facts.)

UC Santa Barbara's Black Tide ultimate frisbee dominance of the 90s

More like SBs Halloween party dominance of the 2000s.

It's true. Their transcendent player, Breana Stewart is from Syracuse, their finals opponent. And she pretty much said I'm a lifelong Orange fan but didn't choose to play there because Connecticut is the powerhouse.

Well, I think it's what L'Inc says plus the fact that because of tv money and the like (including, I'd assume, the role of "major" sports like football and basketball in keeping the hooks in big donor alumni), men's basketball programs at most colleges are significant revenue sources, which leads to substantial investments in the the programs. My sense is that this is far less true of womens' programs, so you have a far smaller pool of schools seriously recruiting the smaller number of obvious standout players. That's why the Duke or or Carmelo Anthony point is only part of the answer. Note that Duke might be in the mix nearly every year, but they're not winning four straight championships. (To the 'Melo point, the fact that NBA money leads a lot of top male players to leave school after a year or two.)
