Also, raw kale has oxalic acid which causes kidney stones. No thanks.

Whenever you go to Chinese restaurant there's some guy (always a guy) what thinks he knows how to say the foods in Chinese don't want to say the Anglicized names be like "Yes I'll have the hu ch'a oh che ha ooh waitress be like "I don't know what you are saying can you just say it like it's on the menu?" And then the guy is like "Oh I guess you've lost touch with the ways and means of the homeland China what a shame to lose your own culture that way alienation in the mente."

I like kale, but I'm certain none of you pinko Whole Foods types have any idea how to prepare it properly (hint: if you didn't instantly think "ham hock," you're already wrong).

Two related points:

1. I required students to define certain terms on the exam I'm grading now. One of the definitions contains the word "modifies" as in "x modifies y." You would not believe how many times I've seen sentences like "x modifys y."

2. I went out of my way to make the exam somewhat easier than the last one try to manufacture a bit of success get dat grades up. I did not succeed in making it easy enough, apparently. I think I'll have to make my exams like those Final Jeopardy questions that "Alex Trebek" (Will Farrell) asked to "Sean Connery" and "Turd Ferguson" and the rest of the gang.

Betimes I try to think what kind of world it must have been like where "Katmandu" (Bob Seger) could be a hit song. I was alive at the time, but too young to have a conception of what kind of world it was. But it must have been weird.

I just got invited to a panel on intersectionality help teach me about how to relate to my students better you know students don't just have a single "identity factor" their identities have many layers to them of which I should know help engage with them better.

I wonder how I could put that to use? "As a white person, you should have natural affenelty for modus ponens logic. But as gender fluid perhaps you strive to resist the stifling effects of rigidified forms of cognizing. I will add six free points to your exam due to gender fluid."
