Things you just don't get - Page 1435

The seats in cattle car are so small you don't even have to be a real fatty to not fit. That's part of what I hate about flying is that only in 1st do I really fit into the seat. I'm not that big, at 5'11" and a brawny 215# and those seats in no way fit me.

just fuel up on chipotle in the terminal and summon those barbacoa farts like the spirits of the damned. oh how the ghost of you lingers.

Should just spill a bottle of Liquid Ass on the seat and leave it at that.

My eye doctor is awesome but the office/retail there is terrible.  Last year they forgot to order my contacts and this year they ordered the wrong ones.  I went in to pick them up and got all frustrated and just had them reorder.  I came home and realized that 1800 contacts was about $60 cheaper then what they charged me (they told me they priced matched)  I called them back and canceled the order and they didnt even question it.    All they had to do was ask what the problem was to start a dialogue but they didnt even do that.   Eh, I dont get them.  It even has me rethinking even going to the Dr there.

eye doctors double as glasses/contacts retailers. i get that everyone needs to make a buck, but imo it's kind of a scam. what happens is they jack up the retail costs to milk the insurance (so far as i can tell) so that a pair of ray-bans that retail for 149 or whatever ends up getting billed as 249. make sense?

get your prescription in hand and take it to the most competitive bidder, which should be online. if you get your glasses prescrip, make sure they include the mm distance from pupil to pupil (called PD) and you should be all set. btw, i've run into the same crappy office people at my old opto and it's just not worth it. i don't think trad optos know how to deal with the *new* environment.

my condolences for the loss of your reasonable expectations. disillusionment is never fun.

I've started ordering my contacts off the Netwebs. Far better pricing and I don't have to put up with the chubby lower SES chics in scrubs that think they're something special because they're wearing scrubs.

There's something I don't get. Lower SES chics that work in medical offices. Almost always chubby, trailer trash or their ethnic equivalent, in scrubs when they answer the phone for a living, act like they have a seat on the floor of the NYSE. WTF gives with that?

One of the advantages of living in a sport focused town is lots of hot chicks filling service industry positions

Not to mention they are just happy to have a job

Ill admit the eye place had me with good service at first.  You know, only had to wait a week for an appointment, great turnaround times, etc.  I actually started going there to get rx transition lenses on a pair of oakleys (they were the closest authorized dealer) and they actually put me in contacts I could wear so I have only used those rx lenses a handful of times (even though they were apparently one of the first transition lenses that also polarized)  So I rarely wear glasses anymore.  But since that first appointment it has been downhill.  Waiting almost a month last year for my contacts, ordering the wrong ones this year, and almost a month wait to get an appointment.

My normal car dealer has emailed/mailed me five or six times in the past few weeks trying to get me to trade in my car because its trade in value is "at an all time high" and people are "looking for used cars just like it."

I know people are looking for used cars like mine, I bought it used less than a year ago.  I also don't believe the trade value is at an all time high - that's now how used car pricing works on production cars.

Well, now ebay is getting in on the game... I can sell my car for only $25 in fees!

And of course, just like houses, if it is really at an all time high and you sell it... You would have to pay all time high prices to get back into something similar (unless you are looking to upgrade/downgrade/change classes to something that is not currently at a high price).

i used to get cold called about my old truck (early 2000s toyota tacoma)

when i sold it (on my own) i stupidly put an ad in an auto classifieds. it's a total scam, just signed myself up for come-ons from auto consignment / financing outfits (sort of how headhunters abuse linkedin). i'm shopping for buyers, not starving fee-based middlemen. ended up making a killing on cl, way way way over blue book. arguably it's value was at an all-time high lol.

i am wondering what make/model is at issue here... it kinda begs the question: if it's a highly desirable model, why would you need help moving it?

EDIT: also, you have a "normal car dealer"? i'm sorta impressed!

That letter is just a ploy to get you into the dealership and trade your car in for a new one.
