Fucking stupid.

He couldn't even afford to buy a Leatherman Wave, and used a knock off. As far as his misfortune... not gonna really blame him for that. I've gone on hikes by myself. Shit happens.

Joe Rogan is great , new wave of psychedelic explorer I honestly believed that shit would save the world . Still do to certain extent but the folks who need it most have the least chance of going there .

I hear you on the solo thing I've skied, scuba ,surfed  and backpacked solo all my life aint gonna change now

I think folks have been thinking that since Ken Kesey. It didn't change the world then, doubt it ever will.

Probably the most dangerous thing i've ever done in my life is go into the ocean alone. once you leave the sand it's a complete wilderness really. since my teens into my 30s i mostly bodysurf which leaves you pretty much completely exposed to wildlife, currents, rocks and sandbars etc. countless times alone - and there have been a few times where i've thought "wtf am i really doing out here?" due to conditions but it's extremely gratifying to be alive and alone every once in awhile...

there's a difference between self-confidence and delusion. my friend knew a guy who wandered into death valley on one of those trips and never saw the dude alive again. but that's different than day tripping to climb boulders, hiking, etcetc.

and anyways the people who invoke darwinism fail to understand that outside of their snide sad boring hipster existence the world is naturally a risky place and there's nothing wrong with kissing a stranger every now and again. canyoudigit?

If you go out into nature, you are in charge of your own life and if you fuck up, it's your responsibility to make sure to can get back and saved as easily as possible (sat phone, gps etc.). Not doing that makes you reckless and an idiot and in my opinion a future darwin award recipient.

The most dangerous thing I've done alone was drive through Hialeah

You can go blind from masturbating and you do that alone.

Why do people send out greeting cards that are photos of their kids or of their families? Do they think people want to display photos of other people's families? I just received one from a family that happens to be pretty religious, which seems weirder: to celebrate the birth of Christ, here's a photo of us! Please cherish it.

Usually when I get them it's just to say hello and this is how we are doing as a family. Nothing with malintent

Did it include a letter telling about their year and all the accomplishments they feel were achieved? If not you did not get the same card I did from .my younger sister that belongs to some splinter group of Baptists.

People who don't negotiate salary / bonus structure / benefits when:

a) receiving a new job offer

b) making a lateral move within a company

c) getting promoted

Those are the best. For a few years after graduation, I got a Christmas letter from one of my college roommates that always ended with, "here's hoping for Christ's return next year!"

Uh huh, I'm really looking forward to the end of the world, too.
