Naaa, but it seems to be an Americanism. I'm just bored and trolling.

I think you may be confused on the troll vs. trolled thing.

I saw some dude at Costco with a literal pallet of fish oil. wtf does anybody need a pallet of fish oil for? It's a lifetime supply. Always blink a little at the people buying five gross of eggs or whatever, but I assumed they're going to a small restaurant. But fish oil?

Dumb question - was it a Costco employee moving inventory?

Also, those club stores (Sam's, **'s, Costco) do serve a lot of businesses - many of their small things like gum, candy, etc. are literally packaged for re-sale. It's possible it was a convenience store owner or something.

Making it edible would probably make it less effective for dental care.

Isn't there stuff in toothpaste that helps your teeth but can make you sick if you ingest it? I know you're not supposed to ingest big-ish quantities of fluoride, which is why kids' training toothpaste doesn't have it, but I don't know if there's other problematic stuff in there, too (or if fluoride really poses a threat in brushing-sized doses).

Sodium Laureth Sulfate is in a lot of toothpaste. Essentially a detergent and foaming agent. Ingesting too much pretty much just gives you the runs.

I use baking soda toothpastes, less sulfates, but it is a bit abrasive, which my teeth needs. For whatever reason my saliva reacts with the hard water and I get stains very easily, less so with baking soda toothpaste.

Oh wait, it could be the 20 cups of coffee and red wine I drink daily...

Either way, if there is important stuff in there that can make you sick if eaten, making toothpaste edible would make it less effective.

wouldn't it be awesome if you could just eat it? I brush my dogs teeth with dog toothpaste (which is "poultry flavored" ) and they are ******* excited and happy as **** when they see me or my wife break out their toothbrushes. the dogs look like they are having calm mouth-gasms while being brushed. toothpaste technology seems way behind and backwards for humans.

I remember my freshmen organic chemistry class in college where the professor started to explain why baking soda toothpastes are superior. So I bought a tube of Toms of Maine and endured the grainy salty taste and texture for a whole semester. I even began to enjoy it! But that **** was expensive for a college freshman on a limited budget.

Yes! That's it. I thought there was something else, but a cursory Google search turned up more conspiracy theories than evidence, so I gave up.

Does the baking soda really help with stains? My teeth could stand to be a little whiter, but I don't have the time/inclination right now to get them done professionally.

I dunno, dude, after 30-something years of spitting, I don't know if I'm ready to become a swallower.

It does seem a little weird that we have something we put in our mouth multiple times a day that comes with the risk of illness if ingested. To be honest, though, dental care in general seems to be weirdly anachronistic. I mean, is running string between my teeth and scrubbing them with bristles slathered in mild poison really the best we can do?

He was checking out with a cart full of other crap, so I doubt it.

Yeah, you see that all the time but fish oil seemed like a weird thing for a small business to buy like that. Maybe I just can't envision being at 7/11 and thinking "Damn, you know what, we're out of fish oil!"

I second this. All of the whitening toothpastes make my teeth sensitive so I stick with OG Colgate Total. Might give baking soda a try if it works.
