went to nomad with my family and my mom said "this is a booze house. everybody has a glass of wine in their hands. i'm not eating here"

had to lobby hard. told her we had reservations and that it was a hotel restaurant and that all nyc restaurants sell booze.

my father wants to move back to LA, where he grew up, but my mother says she doesn't want to move away from family. Her mom and sisters all live fairly close by.

problem is, she sees them all once a year. I don't understand this stupidity.

My dad's an alcoholic, generally functioning. It was terrible when I was a kid; basically destroyed his life, forcing him to start over in his 50s; will probably kill him eventually; and left me with a deep fear of becoming an alcoholic, but damned if we don't have a blast when we go out drinking.

My mom is very measured with alcohol. Definitely not a teetotaler, probably having a few drinks a week on average, but I only recall seeing her even remotely drunk once.

My mother and alcohol is a joke. She's been disapproving of me drinking since I was 15 or so and always told me how I'd amount to nothing because I drink (well, she was correct about the result but so/so on causation I'd say). Of course my father would sit in his chair when I was a young'un and drink a mickey of CC every night and she said nothing. Then the first year I bought the family car (dad was dead, lazy white trash mother with no job or money to buy herself a car after her heap died) I had it in her name for insurance reasons and so she could use it for groceries, etc., she told me if I took it out NYE she would call the police and say I stole it. Wanted me to say home and said we could "toast in the NY with rye," as she had a bottle that was about eight years old from when my father died.

How the fuck do you justify all this in your head? I just had a friend pick me up and didn't go home for three days. Fuck high school was fun.

I definitely think most New Yorker's would be considered alcoholics by most standards. I'm fine with that.

I certainly drink more now than I did in college, but my drinking is more evenly distributed. Rather than like one or two days of insane intake to the point of blackouts it is a more even keel buzz.

After I eat a serving of yogurt I always sneeze. I wonder what's up with that?

Could be a bright light reflecting off the surface of the bacteria causing your retinas to say, "hey I must be looking at the sun".

This is how I feel lately. I don't got more than a day or two without at least some mid level drinking.

This is grown up drinking. It's when you realize drinking is a marathon and not a 100 yard dash.

my wife is afraid to leave they drier and/or washing machine on if we're out of the house confused.gif

but she's fine leaving the dishwasher running when we go out. facepalm.gif

also, I have 12 different speed settings (three main speeds with 4 different sub settings) for my car's window wipers, but I still can't find a wiper speed I'm comfortable with during a light drizzle (usually too slow) or hard downpour (usually too damn fast to where the wipers going back and forth too fast is distracting).
