What kind of witchcraft is at play here?

What brand are you using? I just tried it with mine (Hi-Liter The Original) and it didn't work. Tested again with Sharpie Highlighters… no dice.

It's not even that warm here in LA. The sun was out earlier and it was beautiful but the clouds are rolling in now.

That's SF...

68 is ok indoors with zero wind--it's jacket temps outdoors with wind (especially near a large body of water)

I am not sure what brand they are. I will try again in the morning and see if I can recreate the wizardry.

Tbh I am disappoint. I knew SF was cold and "chilly" but I don't remember it being so freaking windy with legitimately cold air.

I've also noticed that gas pump nozzles in 'murkah has that cover thingie that I assume is to protect you from the fumes while you're loading up, while the 3rd world don't have that cover. does big oil think we are immune from that toxic smell??!

The little disks are supposed to protect you from spashbacks, which modern pumps and tanks have made obsolete, so the feds eliminated the regulation requiring it a year or two back. They're just not being replaced as they wear out by most stations.

Some places, mostly in congested areas, have the clean air hoods which more or less form a seal around the tank while you're filling. Those are the ones designed to limit the fumes, but it's not about your health while filling, it's about trying to improve the air quality overall.

And none of it is about what big oil thinks. Big oil doesn't give a shit. Government health and safety folk, and government clean air folks, however, do like to keep an eye on such things. Third world countries, on the other hand don't have so many of those pesky health and safety or environmental rules.

It was just yesterday I noticed that the gas pumps here in STL no longer had the rubber boots on them.
