GUYS, URGENT BUSINESS-RELATED QUESTION AGAIN! Would really love some input from the more experienced folks here, esp. those who have hired people in the past.
So, some of you may recall my odd job search situation a week or so back I posted about: networking with a recruiter, sending her my application and also applying online per her suggestion, getting rejected by an automated corporate email, and then having the internal recruiter reach out to me for my resume after the rejection. Odd, but whatever. Worth a shot.
So I sent her my stuff and didn't hear back. I followed-up again today, stating why I think I'd be a great fit and she literally just got back to me, saying:
"Apologies for the delay. .....[unrelated stuff about her being busy].......... I recall thinking you'd be a very good fit for the _______ role. I will get your information over to the HM for this opportunity. ..............[irrelevant content]..................
One quick question...have you applied to the position on our career portal? "
So, I think I have several options:
1) Respond back sooner rather than later, like now, and tell the truth that "yes, I applied online and ultimately got rejected, but ultimately couldn't pass up the opportunity to have my resume looked over again when you (the recruiter) asked me for it. I still think I'm a great fit for the role blah blah blah..."
2) Respond quickly like above, but just leave it at "yes, I applied online already, blah blah blah thank you for getting back to me" and don't mention the rejection part. This was a friend's idea, and he said if (when?) I get questioned as to why I didn't tell her about the rejection, I could say that the rejection email was in my junk inbox or something like that. I feel iffy on this one.
3) Respond tomorrow morning-ish or mid-afternoon-ish and tell the truth, with the hopes that the recruiter may have sent my resume to the hiring manager and use the response from option 1 above.
Key questions that impact the final outcome:
- was it the hiring manager who read my application online and thought I wasn't a good fit? If so, I'll get rejected again anyway once the recruiter forwards my stuff to the HM
- was it some HR hack who read my application online? If so, then I still have a shot at this opportunity because this recruiter will effectively bypass this HR person if/when she sends my resume to the HM
So really, I guess it boils down to:
- Do I tell her I got rejected already?
- How soon do I get back to her? If I get back to her quickly and tell her I get rejected, what if she thinks "fuck it, I don't need to send his application to the HM" ?
I'm stumped. Please help with your thoughts. I'd kill for this opportunity.
