My local library just went through a huge renovation, and now the parking lot has a bunch of spots with signs that say "Fuel Efficient Cars Only." What does that even mean? Who defines such a thing? This is a very odd application of social pressure.

I would park like a boss there.

It seemed to be working too. They were the closest spots to the door, it was raining like crazy, and half of them were open in a pretty packed parking lot. Hurray, progressives!

I always ponder about the people so fat they are allowed to have handicap plates. Seems to me they should be forced to park at the farthest possible distance. Even at my fattest I have always parked way out.

I've posted some version of this thought a million times on Styleforum website. It seems like there's a point at which overweight people just throw in the towel; after that point, their weight problems only get worse. I always see young people--I'm talking 18-22--who are overweight and who are using the elevators to go up and down one floor. They're also pushing the handicap buttons to open the doors. It's really sad to see that.

I think, and I know this will be revelatory, not all fat people are the same and people get fat for different reasons. Some fat people do not really take on the mantle of "fat person" and still for the most part think like a non-fat person (that was me). Some fat people are just inherently low energy and/or lazy.

Were you in Athens when the ACC Government bought the old Athens First bank building and started converting it to the Public Utilities department's offices? Do you further recall that, despite the fact that they bought a building with drive-through windows that could have been used to save the citizenry time when paying bills and such, they covered up the drive through and didn't offer such a service?

Wanna know why? They didn't want people destroying the environment by idling while waiting in line.

Spectacular. I never heard about that, although I was there when they did the conversion. Drive through service would have been nice, better than parking downtown.

Athens was certainly "progressive" enough to pull off that kind of logic.

why doesn't the Post Office have a drop off box/machine for Pre-Paid Priority and Express Mail Envelopes and Packages?

hell you could theoretically make a machine to print postage priority/express mail label, to which you put you stuff into readily available/free envelope/box then drop it inside.

I realize that they ask if you have "dangerous substances/ect " before they accept it, but even fedex/ups have drop off boxes for pre paid stuff.

or maybe have a semi-dedicated line/teller/booth to accept pre-paid stuff (like a bank if you're a premium account holder).

its always a huge bummer having to stand in line to drop off even pre-paid stuff, and leaving outside your house/waiting for mailman to pick up your stuff isn't the safest/feasible option (especially in a city or if you're shipping something expensive). sure some Post office people will let you cut a line if they know you already paid for postage but other's don't and people in line sometimes get pissed anyway.

Ummm, I'm pretty sure you can already do this.
