Regardless, it is difficult to Anglicize most Chinese names. Chinese Americans born here are typically given an official and social name in English and a completely unrelated Chinese name that usually exists just for the sake of tradition. Even when I've visited family in Taiwan who can only speak Chinese, I'm still called "Matthew." Well, more like "Meh - tiu." In contrast, my Chinese name sounds completely different and virtually nobody ever uses it.

This is another data point for my "things Jews and Chinese Americans have in common" database.

Do you want to hear the other data point? Hint: it has to do with Christmas.

I used to have a Korean friend named Pedro (not his given name).

Thing I don't get: Those FB quizzes "What stupid show character are you?" I saw one for Big Bang theory - there's like 5 people in the whole show, aren't there? Did you really need to resort to a quiz to figure it out? And why does it matter? Why do you care?

So your Chinese name isn't "official" in any way -- effectively it's just a (little-used) family nickname?
Just curious.

I know people who have it officially as their middle name. I know several who had their chinese name as their official name, but had it legally changed to their american name during college.

How could someone feel comfortable wearing double monks in the Oval Office.

Ethan must have the eyes of a eagle I had to make the photograph very big to recognize style of shoe.

Double monk is my favorite style of shoe wouldn't wear it to the Oval Office, though, unless the President were my buddy just chillin'.
