Saw this movie early today... absolutely loved it. Edge of my seat the whole time and you really get interested and feel for the characters. Definitely a win.

If you're wondering weather you might like it, my style of movies are Scorsese flicks, HEAT, Tarantino stuff, etc etc.

Does Christian Bale actually act or does he do his usual in-front-of-a-camera persona?

Pretty good acting by Christian Bale actually. Outshone hard by Johnny Depp, yes, but still convincing.

Good movie. Felt really long though. I loved the way it was filmed. Ait the beging it felt like it jumped around alot but could just be me. I really really liked it though. Probably the best movie thats been out for a while.

I hope to see it this weekend. How was the costuming, which I would think would be of major interest and appeal to SFers?

Wasnt that great of a movie. Had an appreciation for the cars and suits too but other than that I cant agree with any of you! Movie felt long... dragging on at times. I expected more action and more intense robberies. Didnt really feel for any of the characters throughout the movie although I wasnt happy about the ending.

saw it last night.... movie was okay, Michael Mann definitely left his mark on the movie. can't help but praise the wardrobe- not just the suit, but the casual wear Depp wore, plus Marion Cotillard as Billie Frechette has impact- that lady's gonna be big soon.

I love just about everything Michael Mann has done, but this one disappointed me. Dillinger is a cipher, and not in the usual Mann way of being hyper-competent at a job (compare to DeNiro in Heat) - why does everyone love him? - and honestly I kept waiting for Depp to bust out some Jack Sparrow.

Mann doesn't make emotional movies, but he draws us in with the existential power of professionalism (termite art FTW).

The last third is strong, though - Mann picks up some of his traditional themes, and the cross-cutting with Manhattan Melodrama is fantastic.

Not feeling his use of DV in this either - when he'd go in for the obvious DV shot in Miami Vice it kind of looked like contemporary surveillance/documentary. Here it just seems flat compared to the depth of most of the lighting.

Better than I expected, but not amazing.
