Stay in NYC and take the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) out to the stadium. You can grab the LIRR at Penn Station and go directly to tennis center. There are directions on the following site:

You can buy your train ticket on the train, but it's cheaper if you buy before you get on.

Whatever you do, spend the extra money on the LIRR...taking the 7 train is hellish.

I actually used my Amex to buy men's quater finals tickets; never been to a tennis match ever. I think there shitty seat high up but it was the best available through th Amex pre-sale. Not really into tennis but thought it would be a good place to take a girl and pretend I am somewhat cultured for a change.

Or try to split a cab. I'll second the recommendation for Armstrong. Nice atmosphere, great views, and gives you a better appreciation for the level they are playing at. I've been there, and to the main stadium for a Sharapova semi a few years back. Armstrong was much better. Also, some of those main stadium matches can run absurdly late. Fun once in a while, but it can get cold out there after midnight.
