Eating/Drinking in Toronto

Will be in Toronto soon for a wedding and need some ideas for what to eat/drink. I already know all the awesome Chinese restos as I have family out in North York, but as they are old, they have no idea what the young folks are up to. Last time I was there was kind of a bummer as a few recommendations I received kind of stunk.

Will be staying at the Sheraton Centre downtown.

I'd like some nice lounge recommendations with excellent mixed drinks. Do they have anything like one of those speakeasy type places in Toronto a la PDT in NY? Also, what are some great restaurants with a casual vibe that don't break the bank (really love contemp american/canadian (eh) food, ramen, indian, thai)? Finally, any recommendations for some post-booze cheap eats (pref near the hotel)?

The concierge should be able to help you on good restaurants in the immediate vicinity. I'm sure there's lots of stuff around. I stayed there in november but I didn't eat near the hotel. Chowhound and egulllet are the best places to get restaurant recs. You should ask there.

Summerlicious is happening right now in Toronto, check out:

Everything is cheap, I recommend:

Canadian cuisine = Pangaea
Indian = The Host

But what is Canadian cuisine aside from poutine?? Actually, I took GQGeek's advice and posted in Chowhound. I had been reluctant to sign up for yet another forum but decided I've been putting off joining Chowhound for far too long. Anyway, hopefully Ill get some good responses for where to drink. This Summerlicious thing looks promising. Hopefully someone will rec a restaurant listed on there... if not, I guess I'd be curious to try Canadian cuisine.

We've been discussing this topic here, hope there is something useful in it.

Post boozing = burritos(either burrito boyz or burrito bandido) or places in chinatown (spadina and dundas)

contemporary eats - queen mother on queen west
More expensive - bene nota on queen west, jamie kennedy wine bar (church street), canoe, lee/susur,

vegan - fressen - queen west

breakfast - st lawrence market

Places to avoid anything near king and john in the theatre district

Not sure what a speakeasy place is like but here are a few places to drink - the horseshoe is a legend. A bit further out are the gladstone and the drake (too hipster and douchebag though), also on queen west are the rhino and cadillac lounge.

Hmm..cheap:

Thai - I take someone to Thai Dish at least once a month on Colborne. She likes it..me... I don't know about Thai too much to judge.
Indian (and not fusioned) - anything on Baldwin street (aka Baldwin village)
Ramen - Uhh, the one inside the plastic package?
Breakfast - within hurling (pun intended) distance of you would be Fran's, Sunset Grill, Eggspectations. None of which are memorable other than they're greasy. Sunset is probably cheapest but the hours are most restrictive. Fran's is 24 hours I think.
Canadian - Reds also has a Canuck type menu with Canuck wine pairings if need be.

If you like vodka drinks and like paying $$$, I like the martini list at Pravda. It's very commercialized now but I have to make a plug for it (I almost always get a free martini).

P.S. The breakfast at Bistro on Two in Sheraton is a rip off. Trader's 35 beers on tap is a joke because half of it is American. And the Steak place in there is kind of dodgy especially when they served a work mate of mine a kraft cheese slice with the plastic wrapper still attached.
