Japanese Green Tea

Any other drinkers of Japanese green tea? Perhaps big fans of Gyokuro? Curious to know...

Disclaimer: Ya, this is kinda "old-lady" but whatever...it's delicious.

It's the only tea I drink next to yasmin tea. So yes, it's really good.

I hate Japanese green tea. I find Chinese varieties are way more tasty. I'll take a good pre-rain Dragonwell or any Chinese white tea variety over any sort of Japanese tea any day. My favorite of all time though, Dong Ding Oolong from the highest mountains in Taiwan. It's like angels shooting nut all over my tongue.

Two bold statements. Where do you order from, do you order straight from a tea farm in China?

I order from funalliance.com. He gets his straight from China. Is it the best? Hell no. Is it the best bang for your buck though, hell yes I believe. His Ti Guan Yin Oolong and Shou Mei White are phenomenal.

I know this isn't part of your OP, but, for black tea and rooibos, look no farther than uptontea.com.

I've been drinking a lot of matcha lately. I love it, particularly the following:

O-cha has good stuff. For matcha I have been relying on hibiki-an but I am not afraid to try what O-Cha has to offer. Did you get any shincha from O-cha? I still have yet to open mine...I almost over bought this year!

Japanese green tea tastes and smells like pond scum to me. I wish I liked it, actually.

It could have been prepared poorly. What kind(s) have you had?

My wife drinks the stuff, which is either bought in Japan or Japan-town in San Fran - it has no English on it. It's just too "green" a taste for me. Very "chlorophylly".

All I've had is the matcha, which I recommend. I've heard pretty good things about all their teas though.

I've been drinking the sae midori shincha from O-cha.com. It's good and very green. I ordered another shincha and their organic hojicha the other day. I'm looking forward to trying them. I like Dong Ding oolong, too (maybe better than sencha-- for the moment at least-- but sencha is definitely still my everyday tea). Floating Leaves in Seattle (http://floatingleaves.com) has amazing Taiwanese oolongs, many of which are from the spring 2009 harvest.

You are sure its not Blue Green Algae? Its a popular diet drink here.

I usually drink Saori or random ass Itoen bottled cold green teas. Usually go for the lighter variety but sometimes go for the full brew.

Let us know how the sae midori is. I will open the Kirameki in the next couple days and will post about it. I am tempted to try the Uji Gyokuro "Tsuru-Jiru-Shi". Any experience with this?

Also, what is the deal with all of these gyokuro shinchas? I think this is just a trend. Has anyone tried one they really liked?

Did anyone else try the Temomi Shincha from Sugimoto? I thought it was terrible. I followed the directions to a T () but I could not stand the bitterness--but I know it is supposed to be extremely bitter.

Try brewing it for a shorter duration. At the same time, if you don't like it you don't like it.
