are sure? just eyeballing a map brazil appears to be closer to central america than it is to africa, and central america is part of the north american continent.

looked it up. distance from northeast brazil to sierra leone is about 1,800 miles. distance from northwestern brazil to costa rica is about 1,200 miles.
