Why are you even considering the Mechaquartz? Blegh. On the other hand, the classic 3706 is a very pretty watch. I've wanted one for a long time. The 3717 is an okay update, but the design is showier and less authentic. Greg is right about the Spitfire: stay away from it!

The 5001 suggested by others is nice (it's what I wear), but it's also more expensive than what the OP is looking at.

I mean, I post if I can give something I think it's useful, including mocking someone who seems too serious, is this your case?

Man, you fucking hostile as shit.

Why are the resident WIS so opposed to the Spitfire? Just curious.

n00b question alert - is the 3717 just an updated version of the 3706?

I believe the 3717 has a slightly larger 42mm case compared to 40mm for the 3706.

The pictures above should answer the question.

For the love of God, don't discount the limited edition (1000 pieces) MK XV Spitfire. The hand and dial design pay tribute to the original watch design as worn by spitfire pilots in the battle of britain. DFG [EDIT] Plus it comes with a gorgeous cream cashmere flying scarf....

Get a 3705, the ceramic version of 3706. It is so hard, it breaks up concrete

Another point that often isn't considered is the size. As much as I'd have loved the 5001 it's really big, so people should settle for something that is beautiful when they wear it, not only when they look at it lying on the table. I've settled for the 3714 therefore.

So for gods sake, go try it on before you buy it.
