To me, a trophy wife/girlfriend is one that has the looks that you can show off, but is of little substance underneath - much like a nice sports car, the wife/girlfriend is something to show off. They're an accomplishment, which, in itself speaks volumes of the lack of depth in the man who chooses such a woman.
Personally, I could only tolerate a trophy wife for only a very short period of time. My experience is that women in general do not have that great of a sense of humor compared to men. However, my wife makes me laugh every day. Of course, I'm a little biased about this.
