I feel if it requires a high level of technical skill, physical ability and intelligence then its a sport.

Competitive eating= not a sport

Golf= almost a sport

MotoGP= fucking sport

If old people can do it, it is NOT a sport.

Golf = not a sport. It's a leisure activity. Like wine tasting.

If there's an engine involved, it's not a sport.

if you are engaged in a sport you should be out of breath at some point
post #8 of 97
you need to objectively and clearly determine winners and losers, and application of skill must be present

If there is subjective scoring involved, not a sport. If the East German judge scores differently than the American judge...not a sport.

BTW...most of the distinctions so far are stupid. Tom Dempsey and George Blanda both played professional football past the age of 40, so I guess that means Football isn't a sport. Screw you football fans.

Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. I'll just leave that here...

+1 A sport is a physical activity, so Moto and Auto racing doesn't count in my book, true, it requires skill and competitiveness, but I don't qualify it as real sport because the driver is carried by the machine as opossed to cycling where the rider carries the machine. Competitive horse jumping is an exception to that, true, the horse does the running and jumping, but the rider has to be also fit and synchronised with the horse to be competitive. Some are games, like chess, pool, snooker etc.

+100000...fuck Daniel Negreanu and his stupid ass commercials comparing poker to hockey. WTFFFF???

A sport must require you to be engaged athletically and must require skill attained over years of practice, not luck.

any competitive activity that requires you to keep fit.

40 is not old enough. But old people can also do sport, people on their 60s and 70s do nordic walking, hiking, swimming, aquagymnastics etc.
