A friend sent this picture to me. I believe its scheduled to open late 2010 - going to be a pretty impressive structure. More info here - http://www.hooverdambypass.org/faq.htm

I have to say that all the engineering contained in that photograph is mind boggling.

I miss Las Vegas. If you go there. Drive to Hoover Dam in the afternoon. You'll be going east and the sun in the west will illuminate the gorgeous rock formations. Take the "Scenic Route" (as marked by signs) through Boulder City. You'll come to the top of a large hill where you'll see the deep blue of Lake Mead rimmed by the various pinks, reds, and tans of the desert mountains, and the bright blue of the sky above. Take the "Dam tour" and finish up at the top of the dam with the sun lighting it up golden below you and a breathtaking view of the sun setting between the gorges of the Colorado River. As you drive back to Las Vegas, you'll get a nice view of the stars (unless sprawl has destroyed the entire desert between there and LV) and eventually, once you crest a hill, you'll see the golden lights of the city stretched out before you. One of my favorite things about Las Vegas.

It still boggles the mind the things people are capable of. Absolutely amazing.

And spend lots of money while you're here. Our local economy needs it!

The bridge is impressive, but I am going to miss driving over the dam. There is something magic about the dam itself being the bridge, and driving over it in all of it's Art Deco glory ...
