I think I know the answer to this, but I need some of your wisdom. Is it worth getting a suit made from a polyester and wool blend? Perhaps as much as a 45-55 mix?

Thank You

It will inspire questions such as... "Nice suit! Now, is that domestic polyester or polyester smuggled in during the great Polyester Embargo of 1985?"

Don't do it, unless you want a shiny, cheap-looking suit that doesn't breathe.

Some of the better fabric houses do offer nice-looking blends in classic patterns. They tailor pretty well, don't wrinkle much at all, and wear like plastic bags in a steam bath.

Suits made from Astroturf and the like just look dreadful and have no merits whatever

But I've always wondered why certain makers ( Like ARMANI ) seem to always have 3% of polyester or elasthane in their suiting fabrics?

Is it because they are so cost conscious that they save a great deal for the entire production run by using that 3% of a synthetic?

You never see makers like Kiton, Brioni, or Oxxford using synthetics in their fabrics ( or at least I don't ).

the small amount of synthetic material makes the suit more durable by gaining tensile strength. Sometimes it makes it a bit stretchy as well.

Versace on one of the affiliate sites seems to have that breakdown (poly/wool).

Unless you're really enamored of the brand or desire whatever advantages polyester has, you can get as nice a brand for not much more with a bit of diligent shopping. Unless there is some tangible advantage that you get, don't do it!

A lot of people I know prefer poly blend to 100% wool, especially in the finer fabrics (130s and up), as it is more durable.

I have a poly-wool blend suit. Ime, it wears like Concordia said: wrinkle-resistant, but surprisingly warm for its weight. I don't think I can tell by looking at it that it's a poly blend. Maybe by feel, but maybe not. I wouldn't want a wardrobe of them, but one for travel in cold or moderate weather wouldn't be bad imo.

I must be missing something. The label is contradictory. 100% lana vergine AND 80% virgin wool + 20% poly?

I'm assuming there must be some real merit to having a little bit of polyester (e.g. 3%) but the thought of not wearing natural fibers galls me. Must be due to SF-induced snobbery and prejudice.

that pic is from another SF topic in which the OP questions the authenticity of his 4-button prada suit.

You can wear a light wool suit and get the lightness and the wear of a mix suit...
They might be a tad more solid but it makes your suit a bit more shiny and cheap..
Do not do it...
