I desperately need a haircut

Hi everyone, this is my first thread! So be gentle please

Anyway, I've had the same general hairstyle for a while now, and I'm really sick of it. People always say "it's good" and stuff like that, but they really just mean that it's...not terrible, but not by any means good. It makes me feel bland and stuff, and kind of like a young boy.

I'd like it to be shorter, but not buzz cut short. I guess I'd be willing to use gel, but ideally not very much. I'd like a haircut that looks good with gel, and decent without.

Anyway, here are a few pictures of me.

This is about the shortest I've had it. Ideally, I'd like it to be maybe a bit shorter even:

It's way longer now though, though not quite this long:

Here is another shorter one:

Now I really have no idea what to do. I don't want it *too* short, but I think I'd like something like this:

(I don't have a weird obsession with him, it's just two good pictures of a haircut I could see myself having.)

And sorry to be picky, but here's what I'd say is a bit too short:

I guess my question is, would that require a ton of preparation every day? Would I have to use lots of gel to do that? Would that stay good looking for a few weeks after I get it cut? Do you have to have special hair for that to look good?

Thanks in advance everyone!

I cannot help but you have good hair. You should have no problems getting a nice style.

Thanks! I should say, those pictures are especially good ones, normally my hair looks really bad...kind of floofy, and flipping out to the sides and stuff.

Oh, and sorry for the huge pictures, I didn't know how to resize them. And sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

If your hair goes all over the place put some product in. You could start off with a stay in conditioner or just using a little watered down hand lotion after you dry it. Do not put it in too thick, just a little will do you. It adds thickness which helps when it is humid out.

Thanks, can you suggest any?

Any other advice from other people?

I would try skin moisturizer first. It does not contain alcohol which will dry out your hair and will be cheaper than anything you will buy for hair. If you get frizzy in winter and when it is really humid out it works. A plus about moisturizer is it works in a pinch and some woman somewhere close has some when you need some in an emergency. Try a little. After moisturizer and stay in conditioner it gets really tricky. I have tried thick wax stuff which you just spread around your hands and just pass over the top most layer of your hair. I find a lot can go wrong with product so I try to keep it simple. When I use moisturizers and thinner stuff I just put a little on my hand and spread it around and then run my fingers through my hair like a comb. This adds a little texture. What ever you try do it at night before you go to bed so you do not have to take another shower before you head out.

Thanks! But sorry, what do you mean by the thing before bed?

If you are going to play around with new product and styling do it at night so if it is a complete failure then you do not have to deal with it in public all day. You just wake up and take a shower and you are none the worse for the wear.

My hair is usually the last thing I do before I leave the house so in the morning if I totally muck it up it is a hassle to correct.
