My barber uses a straight razor for the edges and he also gives me a shave if I need it when I come in. I have never been cut but I have pretty tough skin. He keeps the razor in some type of solution which smells like alcohol, but I don't know what it is. Never had any kind of irritation or infection. He shaves using the traditional hot towel and shaving foam of some type. The guy is a master, and I'm sad to say he is retiring at the end of the year and closing his shop. I'm gonna miss him. I love his old school shop and I don't know where I will go when he is gone. I have been going to him for 12 years.

My father is a barber, and I have been getting straight razor for my shaves and haircusts for years. You will be fine. Just make sure you go to an experienced barber.
