Dude... damn. Great photo. However, those look about like the photos the Morrissey avatar guy (Biscotti, upon checking) and the links everyone else posted, right? If you could post a link to something close to what you think Dylan is wearing at those I'd be more than happy to click it. There is just a difference between Winklepickers and something like what Dylan is wearing in that photo.

Also, are most of these boots pretty snug around the ankle? I just don't see how else Bob Dylan or anybody can get skinny jeans to fit over the top of the boots. However, I have a pair of Cheap Mondays which has probably skewed my perception of how tight something has to be to look skinny. Levis 510s could possibly fit over these?

RM Williams if full grain leather.

CT shoes are corrected grain, I think. Don't they use Loake?

I'd get something MTO via RM Williams. There is a thread about it made by Sator in Mens Clothing.

To be honest, I didn't really understand much of this. I did, however, find that thread, which is very informative.

I wouldn't call the boots I posted winklepickers, as the toe isn't quite sleek enough. Dylan is just wearing cuban heeled chelseas it seems.

If you want the more elogated toe, there is an English shoe company - George Cox which makes some nice chelseas with a more pointed toe.

My boots are very snug on the ankle, none of my pants have a leg opening larger than 7 inches. I guarantee that Dylan, the velvet underground and the like were all wearing some form of a chelsea boot.

If you go the RM William route, be aware that you don't have to get a narrow toe like mine have; they also offer a rounded toe and a chisel toe. And the exchange rate at the moment makes RMW a real bargain.

^Yes.

If you can get a hold of the RM Williams catalog then you can see all thier MTO options - they have about 20 something lasts.

Great, great company providing good boots. They aren't as good as C+J or above, but good boots nontheless.

Right, that's what I was saying- by not liking pointy I meant not liking winklepickers. But this conversation has been very helpful and informative and I guess I just need to decide on what kind of Chelsea boots I want.

Also, can anybody say whether or not a cuban heel is more or less comfortable than a regular heel or a lower heel?

I'm the other way around. I walk on a lot of gravel and highly sloped surfaces, which makes me walk on the balls of my feet a lot. Heels are great for grabbing the pegs on a motorcycle, though.

Yeah, I can hardly imagine the cuban heel looking too inconspicuous unless you were at the Cavern Club or something. The regular heel still looks cool enough and is more versatile, I feel.

The original rock 'n' roll chelsea boot in the '60s was made by Gohils, who owned a leather shop in Camden Town, (between the tube station and the lock) London, England.

The shop is still there but I don't know if they still sell the boots.

I rock these from time to time when I'm feelin the swag. They're good for the price and might be the statement you're looking for. They look great with very slim trousers and pretty good with tight dark jeans. There's some other more subdued options on that site as well.
